Consultant Profile: George Brown—Atlas
About Atlas | Ethos & Beliefs | A Short History of Atlas | The Team
Retail fascinates George—both as a profession and as a consumer. From the age of 15 (when he first sold something) up to the present day, he's been interested in the mechanics of the retail industry and why consumers buy the products they do.
A family background in engineering gave him his logical approach to problem solving (so often absent in the modern retail environment where chaos frequently reigns). Then a degree in Business Economics and Marketing gave him the commercial framework to recognise the balancing act between the commercial and creative sides of retail organisations.
George has worked in various roles including those of director and consultant for many retailers. From single store companies to some of the largest worldwide brands he developed his extensive retail experience eventually leading to him founding Atlas.
His portfolio includes
- Levi Strauss Europe;
- Dockers Europe;
- Nike Europe;
- adidas Europe;
- Mexx Europe;
- Harvey Nichols;
- House of Fraser;
- Adams Childrenswear;
- Wal-Mart (George Clothing);
- Ackermans South Africa;
- House of Fraser;

George’s skills are primarily in improving the merchandise flow. From strategic and seasonal planning, product selection, assortment planning, distribution, space and visual management, he supports clients through the following:
Consultant range
- strategic review and industry benchmarking;
- needs identification and project scoping;
- business process definition and tailoring;
- software selection;

When not working with clients or managing Atlas, George loves to travel. Unsurprisingly shopping also takes up a large part of his leisure time, as do eating out, films, animation art and going to loud concerts.
