According to genealogical records Paul’s family have been involved in retailing from the early 1870’s; the male line running pubs and the female side trading small grocery stores.

His first experience in retail was in his mother’s corner shop at the age of four, fetching products for her customers. At age five he took a fifteen-year sabbatical to attend school and university, before returning to retail again. From that time he has worked in store operations, buying and merchandising as well as seven years as head of merchandising on the Poundstretcher management executive with both general executive responsibilities and specific responsibility for management information. He also has an MBA from Manchester Business School.

Outside of consulting life, Paul lives with Kath and their three dogs and enjoys running, long walks and throwing lots of balls. Sadly, he also supports Bolton Wanderers.
